About our winery:

Spring Mountain Vineyard is an 845-acre estate on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain in Napa Valley. Over 225 acres of the estate are planted to vine, representing 135 distinct hillside vineyard blocks with many soil types, exposures and microclimates. Because of the diverse and challenging terrain, a substantial portion of the vineyard is planted in densities of over 4,000 vines per acre and trained to the ancient gobelet form, a vertical trellising method invented in an earlier millennium by the Romans. Originally four separate but contiguous 19th century vineyards, Miravalle, Alba, Chevalier and La Perla are now one vineyard producing exclusively estate grown wines. The vineyard is planted primarily to classic Bordeaux grape varieties that yield distinctive wines of concentration, elegance and longevity. The ultimate expression of the vineyard is Elivette, our signature Bordeaux blend. To simply sample the portfolio of our current wines, we recommend our Tasting Only which is hosted at the yellow Spring House, under the antique olive trees or at a bar in the winery caves. If you have additional time, we recommend a more elaborate tour experience. Each gives you a comprehensive look at various parts of the property including our vineyard, winery and historic caves. Wine Educators will guide you around the grounds of the Estate and surrounding vineyards finishing with a seated tasting of our fine wines at a table deep inside our wine caves or in the elegant Victorian mansion Villa Miravalle.

Three things to love about us:

Spring Mountain Vineyard has built a reputation for elegant, long-lived wines produced from historic estate vineyards planted to Cabernet Sauvignon since 1873. The privately owned, sustainably farmed vineyard remains devoted to Cabernet and the complementary Bordeaux varietals that perform so well in the diverse mountain soils high above the Napa Valley. In 1976, its Chardonnay bested Premier Cru French white burgundy in the famous ‘Judgment of Paris’ tasting.Visitors to Spring Mountain will be guided through a selection of fine, estate grown wines, surrounded by a beautiful legacy of period architecture – the iconic 1885 Miravalle Victorian, an 1886 Eastlake horse barn and a hand-dug 19th century wine cave - set idyllically among lavish gardens and terraced vineyards. A variety of tasting experiences and venues are available daily by advance appointment.

What makes us unique:

In the words of Matt Kramer in New California Wine "If asked to identify what might be considered the single greatest wine property in California today, I\'d have to say Spring Mountain Vineyard."Guests who visit Spring Mountain Vineyard will experience a unique estate established in the 1880s. From the greenhouse garden surrounded by European and American Beauty roses to the canopy of antique olive trees, a visitor is transported to another place in timeless beauty. A perfect opportunity to experience handcrafted, limited production wines modeled after some of France’s finest.

Our awards:

Spring Mountain Vineyard’s 2010 Elivette was voted Best U.S. Bordeaux Blend at the 2013 Decanter World Wine Awards and 2005 Elivette was the only wine from California to win a Gold Medal in the 2010 Decanter World Wine Awards. With a panel of international judges chaired by Steven Spurrier, the Englishman who arranged the Judgment of Paris tasting, the Decanter World Wine Awards is among the most respected and influential wine competitions in the world.
