About our winery:
Our family has been growing winegrapes on our historic Spottswoode Estate since 1972, and making our own wines since 1982. As stewards of our land, we pursue an elegant, balanced and age-worthy style that captures the character of the vintage and the complexity of our legendary estate vineyard. In keeping with the authenticity and integrity we strive for in our wines—and in everything we do—the vineyard and gardens of our estate have been farmed organically since 1985. Because we only open our estate to a small number of guests each day, a visit to Spottswoode is an intimate experience showcasing the beauty and bounty of our family-owned Napa Valley winery. We invite you to explore our historic winegrowing estate, organic vineyard and idyllic gardens, and enjoy our renowned wines.
Three things to love about us:
• Our estate vineyard is a legendary property with a winegrowing history that dates back to 1882.
• Spottswoode is located on the famed Napa Valley bench. This narrow swath of land is hallowed ground in Napa Valley and is the home to legendary properties like Spottswoode, Dominus, Inglenook and To Kalon.
• We were one of the very first Napa Valley wineries to farm our estate vineyard organically, and we donate 1% of our gross revenue on an annual basis to non-profits that share our environmental values through a pioneering organization called 1% for the Planet.
What makes us unique:
The Spottswoode Estate Vineyard has been hailed as a Napa Valley equivalent to a first-growth by numerous top wine writers: In Wine Advocate, Robert Parker has said that, “If Château Margaux were in Napa Valley, it would be Spottswoode, “ On Wine Review Online, Robert Whitley wrote, “The Spottswoode Estate in St. Helena, in the heart of California’s Napa Valley, is indisputably one of the world’s top sites for Cabernet Sauvignon.” And on AppelletionsAmerica.com, Alan Goldfarb stated, “Is Spottswoode a first growth? Does it deserve top status? You bet it does.” Among Napa Valley’s great wineries, we are recognized as one of the few with the terroir, tradition and three-decade track record of excellence to merit such a comparison.
Among its numerous honors, the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon holds the rare distinction of having made the coveted Top 20 of Wine Spectator’s annual “Top 100 List” three years in a row, and recently received a perfect 100-point score from Wine Advocate.
