About our winery:
The small Blind River vineyard is in Marlborough’s Awatere Valley in the north-east of New Zealand’s South Island. It occupies a sheltered spot at the foot of gentle, rolling hills overlooking the picturesque valley floor. Mount Tapuaenuku lies to the west and the Pacific Ocean to the east.
Planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, the soils are deep, stony clay with seams of free-draining, clay-mixed gravels on river terraces. The vineyard is split into blocks with each treated separately and the corresponding wines individually handmade, ready for blending to achieve the ultimate in style and quality.
Three things to love about us:
Our Sauvignon Blanc is made with 10% of the wine fermented in old French oak. Not so you can find any oak character (you won't!), but to add complexity and texture.
We have a very special pair of falcons at the vineyard - their names are Porky and Martha and they are our natural pest control. They produce two chicks a year.
The Blind River vineyard in New Zealand's stunning Awatere Valley, sits between the Pacific Ocean to the east and the majestic, snow-capped Mount Tapuaenuku to the west.
What makes us unique:
Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from the Awatere Valley made by a small team of really cool people! We are very 'hands on' and we do everything in-house, from nurturing our vineyard to making the wines, bottling and distributing them - we look after every part of the process ourselves.
Blind River has won many awards over the years, although we don't enter a great number of wine shows. We love receiving great reviews from wine writers and customers!
