The closest one I can grab…love enjoying a bottle of aromatic whites. But I also love a big, red Cab at the end of the night.

Favorite wine to have in hand while at an event or entertaining?

I lean more towards a red blend. In St. Helena, it’s exciting to drink the local wines because there is always something special or new to try.

Dish: Anything with pork. Wine: Pinot,Abiouness Wines!!!

Odette Winery and The Mascot.

When I’m not drinking wine you can find me doing what…

Drinking beer and cocktails, kidding…I most enjoy spending time with my family – our kids are at a fun age where they are playing sports – it’s a lot of fun!

If you could tell the world anything about Napa’s wine country what would it be?

Napa’s wine country as a whole is an amazing wine destination. St. Helena is one of four wine regions in Napa and each town has its own unique characteristics. St. Helena is special because we consider this is where the “Romance of Napa” happens: It is where the love of wine, love of food, shopping and abundance of culture and relaxation come together.

As much as we love St. Helena, the other regions; Yountville, Calistoga and Napa are all amazing and beautiful places to visit and relax. The beauty of Napa Valley is magically soothing.

You live in one of the most beautiful wine country regions in the world. But if you could, what other wine region would you love to visit? Why?

Champagne France. There is something sexy and romantic about champagne houses and it would be an exciting and fun to experience to over indulge on drinking champagne all day and night!

Marcus Marquez
Partner & General Manager, Goose and Gander

I have been in the food and wine biz for over 20 years! Time goes by when you’re having fun…and drinks!

I feel lucky that I have been in the right place at the right time. I started in a microbrewery/brasserie and learned to love beer and believe it or not, wine. I developed a passion for wine, which also stems from visiting wineries and seeing their passion for their craft. It is truly remarkable and an art.

As a server, starting out in the industry, I saw the level of care that it took to be able to grow the grapes, bottle them and deliver them to the end customer. From that, I fell in love with the wine industry because of the livelihood and passion it took to create a magnificent glass of wine.

I’d also say that I have a passion for food that stems from the details of the ingredients. Whether from the farm or a distributor, fresh ingredients bring out the flavors in a dish. Pair that with the right glass of wine and the experience is both magical and unforgettable.

Formerly, I was a rep for 36 wineries in the St. Helena and Napa Valley area and through my career, I’ve been fortunate to have worked with some of the top wine producers, including Helen Turly, Philpe Melka, Heidi Barrett and Ceilia Majesti.

While in Sacramento, I managed a restaurant called “The Kitchen”. It was an excellent restaurant with top chefs, staff and overall experience. It was a demonstration dinner focused on farm to table dinning. The Kitchen is a James Beard nominated restaurant.

After “The Kitchen”, my wife, Kolea, and I ventured out on our own and opened a restaurant that featured wine, cocktails and local food. The “L Wine Lounge” was located in mid-town Sacramento and catered to many of the locals as well as politicians, lobbyists and attorneys that frequent the capitol.

After the L Wine Lounge, I had the good fortune and opportunity to partner with Andy Florsheim & Chef, Kelly McLown to co–create the Goose & Gander – a wine-country public house located in St. Helena. For those that know the area it is the Old Walter Martini House that was built in the early 1920’s. We’re excited to note that in the 1st year and a half, we have earned the Michelin recommendation rating and many other awards for our excellent cocktail program. If you haven’t been by – stop in and try one of our incredible cocktails!

Beyond my professional life, I am honored to be the newest board member at the St. Helena Chamber of Commerce.
